Download the Laboratory Quality Documents Toolkit
The Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) recently released their latest Census of Publicly Funded Forensic Crime Laboratories. Compiling data from 2009, it found that during the year more than 4 million requests for forensic services were received by the nation’s 411 publicly funded laboratories. These laboratories began and ended the year with a total backlog of more than one million requests for forensic services.
When dealing with this volume of cases, having a robust quality system in place is paramount. To help crime labs develop, enhance and implement their quality systems, NFSTC created a toolkit of generic quality documents to be used by laboratories. The toolkit contains templates, document examples and reference materials such as a Quality Assurance Manual, Operational Policies and a variety of helpful forms.
