    NFSTC welcomes crime scene investigators for immersive hands-on training

    The first of 12 onsite training sessions will be starting this week for 16 experienced law enforcement professionals enrolled in the Intermediate Crime Scene Investigation program.     NFSTC a finalist for BizTech Best Collaboration award

    A joint effort from NFSTC and the University of Tennessee Law Enforcement Innovation Center (LEIC) has been named a finalist for the Best Collaboration award in the upcoming 2012 BizTech Innovation Awards. NFSTC and LEIC teamed up to develop a cutting-edge virtual reality crime scene training program that features online training accompanied by simulated crime scenes where investigators can try out their newly acquired skills in a virtual environment.

    Virtual reality crime scene training now available

    Virtual reality crime scene training developed by NFSTC is now available to state and local law enforcement professionals for free online till January 31. Participants work with a virtual instructor to learn how to use the virtual tools, the process, and the skills that are essential to crime scene management and evidence detection. After completing the virtual lessons, they can use the techniques presented to take on the role of a virtual crime scene investigator – collecting evidence and documenting a virtual crime scene.

    Rapid Biological Screening Workshop presentations now available online

    In October, the National Institute of Justice, in conjunction with the National Forensic Science Technology Center (NFSTC), sponsored the Rapid Biological Screening Workshop. The event brought together a number of forensic experts to discuss methodologies for dramatically improving throughput of biological samples. Presentations and other materials for this unique workshop are now available free online through NFSTC’s Projects Portal.

    NFSTC welcomes back Latent Print trainees

    Fifteen enthusiastic Latent Print Examiner Training participants are returning to NFSTC’s state-of-the-art training facilities in Largo, Florida, next week (Monday, December 5) for the second session of the training program. Throughout the week, they will be learning about Ridgeology Concepts for Friction Ridge Examination; the course is sure to provide many interesting moments.

    Free forensic anthropology workshop now available online

This workshop, hosted by North Carolina State University and delivered by anthropologists from universities including University of Tennessee and Yale, focuses on advances in anthropology as they relate to the identification of human remains.     Intermediate Crime Scene training begins online today

    NFSTC begins delivery of the Intermediate Crime Scene Investigation course today with the opening of online coursework. Almost 200 investigators from across the country will be participating in this unique distance learning opportunity. Following completion of the online work, select trainees will participate in lecture, practical exercises and mock crime scene scenarios at NFSTC’s facilities in Largo, Florida.
