Number of Alleles

Home > DNA Amplification > Multiplexing > Factors > Number of Alleles

For single locus analysis, the general rule is, the more alleles, the better, as it will increase the discriminating power. However, when designing multiplexes, the number of alleles at each locus has to be considered along with the size of the STR product. If there are too many alleles, some may have sizes that overlap with product from adjacent loci.
