Controls are used to assess the analytical methods. In general, analyses include positive and negative amplification controls, reagent blanks, and in some instances known extraction controls and substrate controls. Laboratories must develop criteria to evaluate controls.
In addition, procedures must be in place for interpretation and documentation of control results that do not perform as expected.
