Forensic Information Data Exchange (FIDEX)
Stopping Crime Starts with Sharing Information
FIDEX is a new web-based data exchange developed by NFSTC and key strategic partners that facilitates the sharing of information among forensic investigators, prosecutors, law enforcement agencies, crime laboratories and the courts.
In today’s justice community, most organizations utilize database-driven systems and are moving towards paperless processes. While these modern information systems are efficient, they’re also isolated and are unable to share critical information with other agencies. FIDEX provides the XML bridge to connect these systems so processes between agencies can become dramatically more efficient.
Taking NIEM to the Next Level
Based on the standards developed by the National Information Exchange Model (NIEM), FIDEX takes the next step by creating a secure information-sharing system utilizing the NIEM data schema.
FIDEX is being developed, tested and implemented through the joint efforts of the following organizations:
- National Institute of Justice
- NIEM Information Exchange Package Documentation (IEPD) Clearinghouse
- JusticeTrax.com
FIDEX is currently in Phase II: Pilot Implementation and NFSTC is partnering with various states to implement FIDEX at select agencies. But you can start using some of the web-based FIDEX tools at your agency by downloading the following IEPD files from the NIEM IEPD Clearinghouse.
Electronic Forensic Case Submission IEPD
Share data from a police department records management system or evidence management system with a crime laboratory’s information management system (LIMS).
Electronic Forensic Case Disposition Data Request IEPD
Share disposition information issued by local law enforcement and the prosecutor’s offices with crime laboratories.
