Rapid DNA Center of Excellence

NFSTC@FIU has been on the forefront of forensic technology testing, evaluation and training for more than 20 years.

In 2019, Thermo Fisher Scientific established the first Rapid DNA Center of Excellence in the country at NFSTC@FIU, combining cutting-edge DNA analysis technology with our expertise to advance forensic science. The Center houses Thermo Fisher’s RapidHIT and Applied Biosystem RapidHIT ID platforms in Largo, Fl.

Kevin Lothridge, executive director for NFSTC@FIU, Martin Guillet, VP and general manager with Thermo Fisher Scientific Human Identification, and Rob O’Brien, NFSTC@FIU forensic biology section lead, officially open the Rapid DNA Center of Excellence on November 20, 2019.

For crime labs, law enforcement and first responders seeking technology, training and expertise in advanced DNA analysis, the Center will be a resource with state-of-the-art testing and training laboratories, and will develop validation guidelines, training modules and support materials.
